Escape Room Facts

How Much Do Escape Rooms Cost?

Escape rooms can be a bit more costly than going to the movie theater or going to the bowling alley. What do escape rooms cost? Why do they cost so much?

Escape Rooms cost $30 per person on average for a 60-minute escape room. However, pricing can depend on the escape room’s business model. Here are several things you should know about how escape rooms determine their prices.

Time given in an Escape Room affects the cost

Escape rooms may have longer than average experiences that can result in a higher price per person. We pulled pricing data from many different escape rooms all over the united states. (See the graph below for a comparison of pricing and the length of the escape rooms.)

Ticket Cost x Length of Escape Room

Here we can see that ticket costs double as the time doubles. The shorter the escape room the cheaper it will be.

As the graph above indicates, once we get to the 60 minutes escape rooms there is a variation in cost. The average cost is $30, but some escape rooms have prices as low as $23 per person.

In most escape rooms, participants are given 60 minutes to try and solve a mystery and escape. However, there are some escape rooms that allow up to 90 minutes or even two hours to solve a mystery. Since these experiences take up more time for the business, they do end up being more costly. The opposite is also true if the escape room is shorter.

Escape Room Cost for Children

Usually, children under six aren’t much help in an escape room. So they are typically let in for free. However, children aged 7 years and up are typically charged just as much as an adult. Some premium escape rooms do offer children’s prices. So be sure to check your local escape rooms website to see if they offer a discounted price for children.

Time of the Week Can Affect Pricing

Escape rooms have higher traffic on holidays and weekends. So their prices will be more expensive on these specific days. Usually, they’re about $5 more per ticket, both for adults and kids. On high-traffic days, if you are looking to save a couple of bucks; then try to go during a weekday morning or afternoon. Usually, ticket prices will be cheaper during those time periods compared to going on a Saturday or Sunday. (Below is a pie chart showing the percentage of escape rooms that charge extra high traffic fees and what they charge.)

Group Events

Escape rooms have special rates for large groups of 10-15 or more. Usually, this discount will be 1 ticket free for every 10 people you book. They may also give you a discount on merchandise and future bookings. Call your escape room before booking to see if there are any deals you can take advantage of before you book your next team-building or birthday event.

Special Offers and Discounts

Escape rooms may offer early bird and night owl discounts for times of low traffic. Take advantage of these to save on some cash.
